Heartburn at pregnant women
The known sign that if mum is excruciated by a heartburn during pregnancy, the child will be born with long hair, has received acknowledgement. Doctors who for years struggled with prejudices, have been rather surprised by that fact, that the heartburn is really bound to “hairiness” of the baby.
At last to put an end to conjectures, in Johns Hopkins University have organised research which included observation over 64 pregnant women, 78 % from which had a heartburn of different degree of expression.
Two independent observers estimated degree of a hair of the baby.
From 28 women who complained of a strong or average heartburn, 23 had children with a hair of average and high degree. And, on the contrary, 10 from 12 women who did not complain of a heartburn, have given birth to children without hair or with very small degree of a pilosis.
The scientific explanation of this fact can be the following: at rising of the level a hormone estrogen can relax stomach cardia owing to what contents with a gastric juice get to an esophagus and causes a heartburn. The same hormones cause also growth of hair in the baby.
